Finding a Christmas Gift That Connects That Special Someone to Their Happy Place

Gifting is about finding that special item or experience that fits someone that you care about. It’s a considered purchase that shows that person that you get them and appreciate having them in your life.

Christmas can feel like an overwhelming time with the big businesses bombarding you with ads as soon as Halloween finishes but I urge you to give thought to the small businesses and creators in your local area. A pound spent with them is a vote for human creativity and craftsmanship and more of that money goes back into the local economy ensuring your community thrives.

With that in mind, I have some gift ideas for the adventurers, the nature lovers and those in your life who are stepping into their colourful era.

'Staring up at Trees' mixed media fantasy forest artwork in purples, pinks and blues
£840.00

Staring up at Trees is the first piece from the ‘Returning to Spring’ collection. It was inspired by a photo I took on a walk with my daughter and that dreamy sense you get when lying on the grass in the park staring up at trees as they sway.

There’s a particular kind of magic in walking through woodland in spring - that moment when you step beneath the trees and the world softens. The air feels lighter, birds stitch sound into the silence, and colour returns in quiet celebration after winter’s hush. These pieces are born from those unhurried, technology-free wanderings - from the feeling of being cocooned, of sunlight filtering through branches, of bark beneath fingertips and blossom on the breeze. I worked instinctively and joyfully, layering colour, texture and mark like memories gathered along a path. Each piece is an invitation to pause, to feel that childlike lift of the season turning, and to rediscover a place where calm and energy exist together - somewhere to rest, to recharge, and to quietly dream.

ℹ️ Additional Information (EU GPSR 2025 Compliant):

‘Staring Up At Trees’ is a more ethereal ode to the edge of winter that waits to usher in the warmth of spring. The leaves haven’t yet returned but the sky is alight with colour. This one off mixed media piece is perfect for the daydreamers and lovers of fantasy.

‘Birch Tress in Bluebell Woods’ Original Limited Edition Lino Reduction Print in teal, silver and purple

Birch Trees in Bluebell Wood – Limited Edition Lino Print

A celebration of woodland wonder and the return of spring.

Inspired by that magical time of year when bluebells bloom in carpets across woodlands and gardens, Birch Trees in Bluebell Wood captures the shift from winter’s grey stillness to the vibrant renewal of spring. Hand Printed ‘Tumbling’ Lino Reduction Print of a Vivid Blue Wave Crashing in the Sunrise, Inspired by The Beadnell Coast
£300.00

Tumbling – Limited Edition Lino Print

Storm Babet. A wild North Sea. A moment of fearless joy.

Tumbling is a celebration of the raw, untamed waves of the North Sea. During a family visit to Beadnell, Storm Babet rolled in — and while most people stayed indoors, I grabbed my running shoes, sketchbook, and watercolours, and went out to meet the storm.

I sat (safely) on the rocks, mesmerised by the sea whipped into frenzy: waves tumbling over each other in a dramatic, powerful dance. That energy — that sense of wild freedom — is captured here in layers of colour, texture, and movement.

Whether you see power, calm, or adventure in it, Tumbling invites you to reconnect with the elements.

The Process

Created using the linocut reduction method, Tumbling is printed from a single block, carved back layer by layer. This irreversible process means the edition is truly limited — once the block is gone, it’s gone.

There are six layers of hand-rolled Cranfield Traditional oil-based relief ink, applied to archival-grade Fabriano Unica paper, a blend of 50% cotton and 50% wood pulp. The subtle surface texture allows for delicate variations in light and pigment.

Look closely and you’ll see zesty lemon yellows mingling with stormy teals and deep blues, hinting at the fleeting sunlight beneath the storm.

Dreaming of Paris Lino Reduction Print in Macaron Pastels and Metallics
£370.00

Dreaming of Paris – Limited Edition Lino Print

A city of light, art, and longing.Paris lingers in the heart long after you leave — a city where every street tells a story, every golden-hour moment feels cinematic, and every pastry seems too beautiful to eat. Dreaming of Paris is an ode to that feeling — the glow of the Seine at dusk, the quiet joy of an artist sketching in the shadows of the timeless elegance of Parisian architecture.

Whether you've wandered its streets or simply dream of doing so, this piece invites you to step into the romance, creativity, and beauty of a city that continues to inspire the world.

The Creation Process

This piece combines lino reduction printing with a jigsaw technique. The lino was carefully divided into four interlocking pieces to apply a shimmering metallic base layer. I then carved architectural details into the block and overprinted with soft pastel tones, bringing structure and atmosphere together in delicate harmony.

For the budding Alice stepping

Snap, Dragon! | Lilac, Orange, Pink and Green Snap Dragon Artwork with Yellow | Mixed Media on Board acrylic, gold leaf, pastel, oil pastel, pen on board
£687.00

Snap, Dragon!

Squeeze the sides of these blooms and they snap like a dragon protecting its gold. It’s pure magic as a child and the wonder of how these flowers grow their own mechanism still fills me with awe.

Their edible heads attract bumblebees and look like they’ve been plucked right out of Wonderland.

‘In most gardens,’ the Tiger-lily said, ‘they make the beds too soft - so that the flowers are always asleep.’

Alice in Wonderland

Created in a combination of lusciously layered paints in vivid colours and details in oil pastel, chalk pastels, paint pen and gold leaf, the blooms appear to swoon in the bright sunshine. The piece is deliberately naive in the way the yellow circle suggests the sunshine - we’ve all made pictures as children with a big sun like that.

Perfect decor for an entrance - be welcomed with colourful joy.

Purple Buddleia and Scarlet Poppies in 'A Scent on the Breeze' - Mixed Media acrylic, gold leaf, pastel, oil pastel and pen on canvas

A Scent on the Breeze

Imagine these hypnotic poppies guiding you to sleep like Dorothy and her friends on their way to the Emerald City (but without the wicked witch) and relaxing with the scent of the Buddleia nectar on the breeze and the gentle hum of butterflies and bees fluttering all around.

Both Buddleia and Poppies often grow in the harshest of environments. They’re survivors and share their beauty despite the challenge. In this piece, these flowers are thriving and helping the insects to do so too. Created in multiple layers of paint with details in gold leaf, pastel, oil pastel and pen on canvas, the textures really bring the delicacy of the poppies and the fulness of the Buddleia to the forefront against the ultimate blue sky.

Listening Ears | Lamb's Ear Small Artwork on Board in Soft Greens with Gold Leaf | Acrylic Painting
£394.00

Listening Ears

When you first touch a leaf on a Lambs’ Ear plant, its quite unbelievable how soft it really is. The name could not be more accurate and the minty tone of the green colouring just adds to this.

Built up in thin layers of acrylic paint on board and framed in a halo of gold leaf, the foliage shines like the hero it is without need for a flower. The gold leaf catches the travelling light throughout the day so the piece never quite looks the same at any given time.

Perfect decor for a calm bedroom.

Last but by no means least is a piece that takes me back to my childhood. When my Nana first showed me the Lamb’s Ear plant in her garden I was spellbound by how soft it was. The tactile art lover in your life will fall in love with it too and the halo of gold leaf nods to the innocence of that time.
