Like Stepping into a Pavement Painting in Mary Poppins - how it feels to hang original art
'Where is that? I want to go there.'
This was what a client said at my preview the last month. She'd spotted the prep sketch for 'Birch Trees in Bluebell Woods'.
Birch Trees in Bluebell Wood – Limited Edition Lino Print
A celebration of woodland wonder and the return of spring.
Inspired by that magical time of year when bluebells bloom in carpets across woodlands and gardens, Birch Trees in Bluebell Wood captures the shift from winter’s grey stillness to the vibrant renewal of spring. With silver birch bark gleaming and fresh greens bringing life to the forest floor, this piece invites you to pause and be transported to a quiet, blooming glade — no matter the season.
The Making Process
This piece is printed using the lino reduction method, where more of the lino block is carved away between each ink layer. Once completed, the block cannot be reused — making each edition truly unique and impossible to reproduce.
Birch Trees in Bluebell Wood features multiple hand-printed layers in carefully mixed Cranfield oil-based inks. The subtle play of colour and contrast brings depth, light, and texture to this serene woodland scene.

Remember that bit in Mary Poppins where they hold hands and jump into Burt’s pavement drawing? It’s magical and that magic can be conjured by original art in all forms. It makes you want to be in that place and brings the happiness of locations into your space.
Truth be told, many of my pieces are inspired by fragments and mixtures of places and some are entirely imagined. This particular one was informed by the birch trees in Gosforth Nature Reserve and the bluebells that adorn our front garden every year. They are two of my favourite natural sights at the moment and went together so well. The combination creates a fairytale experience.
Sometimes a piece of art just grabs you.
‘Honestly, I wasn't really looking, which makes it all the more special that I ended up buying two pieces at the preview evening! Our house has slowly been coming together over the years but the walls have always been the last thing we think about. We'd talked about getting some proper art rather than just prints from the usual high street shops, something that actually meant something to us. I just hadn't found the right thing yet.’
When I asked 'What was it about my art that drew you in?', she said:
'The colour, immediately. There's so much boldness to it without being overwhelming. The Birch Trees in Bluebell Woods stopped me in my tracks because it felt almost like a memory. And then the Hadrian's Wall piece, living in the North East, that's part of our landscape and our history, and I loved that it celebrated it in such a distinctive way. It didn't look like anything else in the room.'

Window to Bromlee Lough – Limited Edition Linocut Print
Walks between Milecastle 35 and 36 always draw me in — the ruins at Sewingshields are fascinating, but it was the smaller details that caught my eye. High on the hill, I found little gaps in the stone wall that felt like windows perfectly framing Bromlee Lough beyond.
Even as the rain began to fall, the Lough sparkled in the distance. There was a hush, a calm that made the view feel almost magical.
This print captures that moment. I used a three-layer linocut process to build depth and vibrancy — beginning with two carved blocks to layer colour and texture, then adding a third soft grey layer to give structure and atmosphere. The result is a bold yet tranquil landscape that invites you to pause and look through that same ‘window’.
