Art Collectors Who Love the Sea: Why They Bought ‘Happy Place’

Your happy place is such a personal thing - that place that centres you, brings you peace and joy at the same time and holds so many special memories.

For the Woolley’s that place is the north east coast. Living in Newcastle where they first met, they are blessed to be just a 15 minute drive from some of the UK’s award winning stretches of beach - Tynemouth, Whitley Bay and Seaton Sluice to name a few.

‘We were looking for a piece of art with a nautical theme when we came across Heather’s work.

We were drawn in by her use of bold colours and the unique patterns created by her carving.

Heather is friendly, honest and approachable which all created a great service. Buying from her felt easy and the whole process was transparent.

We’re so happy to have this piece in the hallway - our original ‘Happy Place’ print makes it welcoming. ‘

Chris and Pippa Woolley

The Woolley’s love the fact that they live by the sea and want to spend even more time by the coast with their family. They have taken up paddle boarding as a way to get out in nature and be active as a family. They also love walking, eating and relaxing by the sea listening to the ebb and flow and taking in the scent of salt and seaweed on the breeze.

Happy Place – Limited Edition Linocut Print

Is the coast your happy place?

Do you love walking along the shore, listening to the waves come and go? It’s so soothing, isn’t it?

Imagine coming home after a long day at work, pouring a glass of wine or a cup of tea, cosying up under a blanket, and gazing at the gorgeous lino print you chose. You daydream about your next trip to the beach, make plans with your loved ones, and feel your worries melt away.

This print captures that peaceful, comforting moment and brings the calming energy of the coast right into your home.

The Making Process
Created using the linocut reduction method, this piece was carved and printed in layers from a single lino block, which is carved away progressively after each color is printed. This technique means no two prints are exactly alike and the edition can never be reprinted once complete. Printed with archival-quality oil-based inks on premium Fabriano Unica paper, this artwork is designed to last for generations.

When they first saw ‘Happy Place, they were fascinated by the silver flecks in the water and asked if they were boats or paddle boards. I created them as light reflections on the water but I love that they immediately saw their own experiences in the colours and textures on the surface. That’s one of the amazing things about landscape art - you are transported back to memories and given permission to dream about what’s to come.

They have since told me that the piece has become a talking point as people enter their home - they love to entertain so having a home filled with inspirational art and nostalgic nods is a great way to get the conversations going over a home cooked meal and a bottle of red.
