The Childhood Garden: Who It's For (And Where It Belongs In Your Home)

I've already told you the story of how this collection came to be, the gardens I grew up in, my Nana's fuchsias, the poppies that seem to stand proud no matter what. But a collection isn't just about where it came from. It's about where it's going, and whose home it's meant to end up in.

So who is this collection actually for?

It's for the people who can't walk past a flower bed without stopping. Who notice the way a fuchsia twists in the breeze like it's mid dance move. Who know, without being told, that Lamb's Ear is the plant you can't help but touch. If you've ever crouched down in a garden just to look closer at something, this collection was made with you in mind.

It's also for the people who fill their homes the way they fill their gardens: with abundance, colour, and a few unexpected surprises. Homes with personality. Homes where guests linger in the kitchen a little too long, where a reading nook actually gets read in, where the sunroom is the good room.

Here's a closer look at the kinds of spaces and people this collection is finding its way into.

The gardener who wants their outdoors to come inside

If you're the kind of person with soil under your fingernails most weekends, you already understand what took me years to capture in paint: that flowers have personality. The Fuchsia piece, mid twirl, built up in thick layered paint with constructed tissue petals and wire stamen, was made for exactly this kind of person. It's not a flat, polite floral. It has the vivacious energy of the real thing.

The same goes for the Poppy and Bud piece, with its blush tones and delicately layered tissue, or the Cornflower, painted like a tiny firework of powder blue and deep purple bursting from its centre. These are for the gardener who wants a piece that feels alive on the wall the same way the plant feels alive outdoors, especially somewhere like a conservatory or a relaxed living room where the line between garden and home is already a little blurry.

The person whose home is built for entertaining

Some of the larger, more layered pieces in this collection, the ones built up in acrylic, gold leaf, pastel and pen on canvas, were made with a busy, sociable home in mind. The Poppies and Buddleia piece, glowing against an intense blue sky and alive with the hum of bees and butterflies, and the Secret Garden inspired canvas, filled with fuchsia, dicentra, lamb's ears, ranunculus and a gilded archway, are both described as perfect for a busy entertaining space, and that's exactly the energy they carry.

If your home is the one where dinner parties spill from the kitchen into the garden, where there's always a reason to gather people together, these are statement pieces built to hold their own in a room full of conversation. They give guests something to talk about, and they reward a second and third look, because there's always a new detail to spot.

The nostalgic homemaker who wants a story on the wall

A lot of this collection is rooted in memory: my Nana's garden, childhood summers, the books I loved as a girl. If you're someone who fills your home with things that mean something rather than things that simply match, this is your collection. The Fuchsia piece carries a direct link to my Nana's garden. The Alice in Wonderland inspired canvases nod to the swooning blooms of Wonderland, painted with a deliberately naive, childlike sun.

These pieces suit an entrance hall (be welcomed with colourful joy) or any space where you want a piece to do more than decorate. They're conversation starters for anyone who loves a story behind their art, and they fit beautifully into a family home with children, where memory and imagination are already part of daily life.

The person who wants a calmer, softer corner

Not every piece in this collection is loud. Some were made for stillness. The Lamb's Ear piece, built up in thin layers of acrylic and framed in a halo of gold leaf, was designed for a calm bedroom, its gold catching different light throughout the day so it never looks quite the same twice. The Bleeding Hearts piece, detailed but never fussy, was made for a dreamy reading nook.

If your home has a corner that's just for you, a window seat, a quiet bedroom, a spot where you curl up with a book, this collection has pieces made to sit quietly there and reward a slower kind of looking.

The grown up, considered home

Then there's the Clematis piece: deep burgundies and aubergines against vivid green, described as a luxurious ballgown of silk and velvet. This one was made for a grown up lounge, a more sophisticated, considered space. If your home leans toward rich colour and confident statement pieces rather than pastel prints, this is the piece that will anchor a room.

Wherever you place it, it's one of a kind

Whichever of these homes sounds like yours, gardener, entertainer, storyteller, or quiet corner keeper, every piece in this collection is one of a kind. Mixed media, hand finished, and shipped with a handwritten note from me. Nobody else will have the exact same piece on their wall, which feels right for a collection built entirely from memory.
